Athens International Airport, Tirana International Airport shpk (TIA) and Wizz Air held an event on Tuesday, December 20th, 2022 in Athens to celebrate the first flight of the newest route that connects Athens to Tirana.
On December 13th, Wizz Air started the direct flight from TIA to ATH with a frequency of 3x a week, but with potential to increase up to 5x a week during summer season. The new route Tirana-Athens will provide affordable and short travel opportunities for passengers in both countries, Albania and Greece for the first year of operation.
During the press conference, the three parties highlighted their excellent cooperation and pledged to boost flights servicing Albanian passengers in the future, particularly to the Albanian community in Greece, will be increased in the future.
During the event, the representatives of TIA, AIA and Wizz Air underlined that the new route Tirana-Athens line will give new impulse to tourism as well as business and cultural exchanges.
The Head of Network Development of Wizz Air, Adria Grabalosa expressed his enthusiasm for the newest route Tirana-Athens taking into consideration the large community of Albanians who live in Greece as he promised other direct flights between Albania and Greece.
During the press conference, Aurora Golemi, Tirana International Airport’s PR representative, spoke of “amazing news for the passengers” with regard to the launch of the Athens-Tirana route. “This has been one of the most highly demanded direct flights by the Albanians but also the Albanian community in Greece,” Golemi said, adding that the new route will boost tourism numbers in both countries and also bring a new dimension for culture and business. “We are giving the choice of flying to at least 5 million passengers that drive back and forth from Tirana to Athens”.
The Athens International Airport's Director of Communications and Marketing, Ioanna Papadopoulou, echoed her enthusiasm by highlighting the good neighborly relations between the two countries and expressing her willingness to further develop collaboration and flight services between Albania and Greece.
